WLOV Lady Statesmen suffer tough overtime loss to West Florida
The University of West Florida (8-3, 5-1 GSC) drained a buzzer beater to force overtime and then outscored the Delta State University Lady Statesmen 12-8 in the extra session to earn a 73-69 Gulf South Conference win Saturday at Walter Sillers Colisuem.

WLOV Rebels win third straight, defeat Alabama A&M
The Ole Miss women’s basketball team picked up its third consecutive win with a 71-47 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday at Tad Smith Coliseum. Tia Faleru led the Rebels with a game-high 24 points and 14 rebounds for her 23rd career double-double and first since the Nov. 20 game vs. Southern. Erika Sisk (Oxford, Miss.) joined Faleru in double digits with 12 points for her second consecutive game in double digits. In all, eight of Ole Miss’ players made it into the scorebook on the afternoon.

“First half I thought it was really, really good, said head coach Matt Insell. “As I tell them all the time, it needs to be about “ours” and not “I.” When we make team plays, great things happen for us. I was really proud of their focus and how they came out today. You are playing a team that hasn’t won a game. You watch them on film and you know you should beat them. So, it gets to where you get a little nervous about that. But, they came out with extreme focus and played. We are 9-3. We are a young basketball team. We are growing everyday and they are getting better. We are going to have a lot of those players here for a long time. I am really excited about that and the future ahead of us.”

After trailing by as much as 21 points, the Lady Bulldogs played much better in the second half and got as close as 14 points but the Rebels clamped down on defense and rolled to their third straight win and seventh home win.

The Rebels shot 60.9 percent in the second half, as they overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to win for the first time this season.

Delta State University men's basketball played host to Gulf South Conference opponent Valdosta State on Thursday night at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The Blazers came away with the win, 74-71. DSU drops to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Delta State University (4-5, 2-3 GSC) used two big second half runs to upend Valdosta State (7-4, 3-2, GSC), 76-46 and give first-year head coach Craig Rhoden his 500th career win Thursday at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
WLOV Ole Miss women down USM
In their first meeting since the 1999-2000 season, senior forward Tia Faleru (Ozark, Ala.) scored a game-high 17 points to help lead Ole Miss to a 68-66 win over instate rival Southern Miss on Thursday afternoon at Tad Smith Coliseum.

“I’m really proud of our basketball team and how we responded. We had a lot of toughness and showed a lot of great things in that game,” head coach Matt Insell said. “We can build on that. I’m really proud of our basketball team getting that win because we’re going to be happy to have that one come March.”

Faleru, who led the Rebels (8-3) in scoring for the team-leading sixth time this season, was joined in double figures by freshman guard A’Queen Hayes (Horn Lake, Miss.) and sophomore guard Erika Sisk (Oxford, Miss.) who added 10 points each.
WLOV Northeast introduces new head football coach
Greg Davis will assume the duties of head football coach at Northeast Mississippi Community College effective January 1, 2015.

Davis is the 14th headman for a program that has won four Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division championships and qualified for the state playoffs on nine occasions.
